Superstorm Sandy: Fuel shortages hit US
 | It's been crazy all week -- and things are getting worse. Drivers with empty tanks are sitting in line outside closed gas stations -- some just on the mere rumor that they'll open soon -- and have gas. She adds that while she hears there are better situations outside the city -- she says that's only rumor too -- and she's not sure she's got the gas to get there anyway. Now on the average -- New Yorkers are not a stupid lot of people -- so: Why would they wait on line as far back as the eye can see for a tank of gas from a station that isn't even open? For many of them -- their lives hang in the balance. Several drivers in line have health conditions that make driving necessary -- so gas is critical. Other drivers have less severe -- but still important situations -- such as the need to get to work or help family members.
