 | Philippines lead Global Handwashing Day 2012 celebrations Quezon City, Manila, October 15, 2012—From a one-day event, and now a much celebrated day, the Global Handwashing Day (GHD) will be held at LR Pascual Elementary School in Baesa, Quezon City at 9:00 o'clock in the morning, simultaneously launching Department of Education's flagship, the Essential Health Care Program (EHCP) for Quezon City. This year's event marks the first GHD alliance that comprised government agencies, corporate partners such as P&G, Unilever, GSK and other organizations like Fit for School, UNICEF, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The GHD is an initiative of a Global Public-Private Partnership that aims to promote the culture of handwashing with soap to people all over the world. For the fifth consecutive years, GHD has lead hundreds of millions of people to make the habit of washing their hands with soap, a simple gesture but an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. It has gained numerous supports and commitment both from local and national leaders. The advocacy video will be officially launched during the celebration which features Secretary Br. Armin Luistro of the Department of Education; Secretary Enrique Ona of the Department of Health; and Secretary Corazon "Dinky" Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
